How many chemical reactions does iLabs simulate?
289 distinct two-substance reactions, plus a few special multi-substance mechanisms such as aqua regia dissolving gold. Every one is shown with its balanced chemical equation.
What types of chemical reaction are covered?
Combination, decomposition, single and double displacement, combustion, neutralisation, precipitation, redox, metal + acid, carbonate + acid, and industrial processes — the Haber, Contact, Ostwald and Solvay processes.
Which reactions need heat?
About 24 — most combustion, thermal decompositions, the catalytic step of the Contact Process, and reactions like iron with sulfur. Turn the bunsen on and they become available.
Why doesn’t gold react with hydrochloric or nitric acid alone?
Gold is extremely unreactive; neither acid can oxidise and dissolve it by itself. Only a 3:1 mix of the two — aqua regia — dissolves gold to chloroauric acid: the nitric acid oxidises the gold and the chloride ions stabilise the gold ions.
